Early Detection and Diagnosis

Dedicated to early detection

Early detection of cancer offers the best opportunity for successful treatment, and Tennova Cancer Centers are committed to promoting early detection through screenings and advanced diagnostic services. Whether it’s providing online risk assessments, encouraging annual mammograms or self-breast exams through an e-mail reminder program, or holding health-education events in the community, part of our comprehensive care focuses on prevention.

Advanced expertise and technology for cancer diagnosis

Our cancer centers utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic technology that has the capability to detect cancer in its earliest stages. Accurate diagnosis is a crucial part of developing an effective treatment plan, and our cancer specialists (oncologists) have the expertise to diagnose and plan a comprehensive treatment strategy:

  • Advanced imaging technology – Computerized tomography (CT or CAT scan), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound imaging (or sonography), positron emission tomography (PET), and other advanced imaging technologies provide a detailed picture of internal organs and tissues to detect cancer
  • Breast cancer detection – Tennova offers state-of-the-art breast imaging technologies such as digital mammography and breast MRI, which can play an important role in early detection of breast cancer.
  • Biopsy – Biopsies determine whether cells are cancerous, and if so, determine the type and stage of cancer. Advanced imaging technology — such as MRI, CT and ultrasound — can be combined with minimally invasive techniques to obtain tissue samples.
