Patient Support

Comprehensive cancer support services that address body and mind

At Tennova Cancer Centers, we believe supporting our patients is an important part of our comprehensive care. Cancer treatment often involves numerous specialists, procedures and complementary therapies, and can often be overwhelming. That’s why Tennova's cancer care encompasses a full range of support services that address everything from education and care management assistance to support groups and spiritual care.

Helping you manage your care

Tennova Cancer Centers offer a variety of services to assist you throughout your care, including:

  • Care coordination assistance – Tennova's Cancer Care Coordinator is a licensed registered nurse who can help you and your family manage the myriad of issues that impact care — our patients have found this service to be invaluable during their care. Our coordinator can help with insurance issues, identify appropriate support programs, coordinate transportation, compile educational materials, and much more.
  • Cancer education resources – The American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center is a free service to the community, offering the most extensive cancer education resources in the Knoxville area. The center, located at Tennova North Cancer Center, offers books, pamphlets, videos, and computer resources. Trained and certified volunteers provide support to cancer patients, family members, and caregivers.
  • Transportation assistance – Getting to and from cancer treatments and appointments can be challenging, so Tennova Cancer Centers offer transportation assistance to those who need help. Call (865) 545-7817 for more information.

Care enhancement services

We provide a range of complementary services to nourish the mind and body during the treatment and recovery process:

  • Nutritional counseling – Eating the right kinds of foods before, during, and after treatment can help you feel better and stay stronger. The Tennova  Cancer Centers’ registered dietitian can help you incorporate proper nutrition to regain strength, rebuild tissue, and feel better overall.
  • Cancer Well-fit program – This exercise regimen is specially designed to improve recovery and reduce fatigue during and after treatments. The program is free, and available at Tennova Health & Fitness Center. For more information, call (865) 362-8510.
  • Spiritual care – Chaplains are available to provide compassionate spiritual and emotional support to you and your family. Contact the Spiritual Care Department at (865) 545-7923 to arrange a visit from a hospital chaplain or to arrange a special visit from your clergy.
  • Support groups, educational seminars and more  – Choose from cancer support groups — including special groups for those with breast, prostate and lung cancer — health-education seminars and a variety of classes for individuals who are affected by cancer. We also offer some special support services just for women
