Surgeon specializes in advanced laparoscopic procedures
KNOXVILLE, TN (June 21, 2018) – Tennova Healthcare recently welcomed A. Mike Tummers, M.D., general surgeon, to his new medical practice at Tennova General Surgery – Lakeway. Dr. Tummers is experienced in a wide range of general surgery procedures and techniques. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery for hernia, reflux, thyroid, gallbladder and bowel diseases. He has a special interest in advanced laparoscopy for ventral and inguinal hernia repair. Dr. Tummers performs surgery at Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, TN.
In addition to private practice experience, Dr. Tummers served as a general surgeon with the U.S. Navy. He earned his medical degree from Quillin College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN. Dr. Tummers completed an internship and residency as well as fellowship training in vascular research at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, TN. He is board certified in general surgery.
“A major focus of my practice is advanced laparoscopic procedures,” Dr. Tummers said. “These minimally invasive surgeries utilize specialized instruments and a miniature video camera, which allows me to see inside the body and perform a variety of procedures, such as hernia repair and gallbladder removal.
